12 bunkers destroyed, 135 arrested, mortar-IED recovered… Security forces action intensifies in Manipur

It has been more than 50 days in Manipur, but the violence is not taking the name of stopping. Manipur is pleading for peace. Violence has been going on in Manipur for almost 2 months. Meanwhile, the police and security forces have also intensified action against the militants. Security forces destroyed 12 bunkers built by militants in different districts of violence-hit Manipur in the last 24 hours.

A statement issued by the Manipur Police said that the state police and central forces conducted search operations in Tamenglong, Imphal East, Bishnupur, Kangpokpi, Churachandpur and Kakching districts. During this, 12 bunkers were destroyed. Not only this, during the search operation, the police found three 51 mm mortar shells, three 84 mm mortars and IEDs in a paddy field in Sahumfai village. The bomb disposal team also destroyed the IED.

According to the police, the situation is tense but under control at some places, there have been some sporadic incidents but the situation is normal in most of the districts of the state. Police has arrested 135 people in cases of curfew violation, theft in houses, arson. Police said that a total of 1100 arms, 13702 ammunition and 250 bombs of different types have been recovered so far. Flag marches, siege and search operations are going on in different parts of the state.

Why did violence spread in Manipur ?

Acting Chief Justice of Manipur High Court MV Murlidharan recently gave an order. In this order, the High Court had asked the state government to consider the demand of giving Scheduled Tribe status to Meitei. Against this decision of the court, All Tribal Students Union of Manipur (ATSUM) had taken out ‘Tribal Unity March’. Violence broke out during this unity march on 3rd May. It is being told that during this time violence started between tribals and non-tribals.
