Digital Desk: Four earthquakes shook Nepal in an hour on October 3, 2023, with tremors felt in northern India as well. The first earthquake, of magnitude 4.6, struck western Nepal at a depth of 10 kilometers at 2:25 pm (local time). It was followed by a magnitude 6.2 earthquake at 2:51 pm, which was the largest of the four. Two more earthquakes, of magnitudes 3.6 and 3.1, struck the same region at depths of 15 kilometers and 10 kilometers, respectively, at 3:06 pm and 3:19 pm.
The epicenter of the earthquakes was located in the Baglung district of western Nepal, about 200 kilometers west of Kathmandu. The tremors were felt in several parts of Nepal, including Kathmandu, Pokhara, and Biratnagar. They were also felt in some parts of northern India, including the states of Uttarakhand and Uttar Pradesh.
There have been no reports of any major damage or injuries from the earthquakes. However, authorities have advised people to take precautions and to be prepared for aftershocks.
Nepal is located in a seismically active zone, and earthquakes are common in the country. In 2015, a devastating earthquake of magnitude 7.8 struck Nepal, killing nearly 9,000 people and causing widespread damage.
