7 students of Assam Engineering College killed, 5 injured in road accident in Guwahati’s Jalukbari

In a tragic incident, at least seven students from Assam Engineering College (AEC) were killed in a road accident that took place in Guwahati’s Jalukbari area during the wee hours of Monday.

The road accident took place at 1.00 am when the driver of the Scorpio car bearing the registration number As 01 GC 8829 lost control and crossed over a divider before crashing into a Bolero DI pickup van on the opposite lane coming on Jalukbari Flyover road, sources informed.

As per the initial information received, ten persons were inside the vehicle, that was rented by the students for a weekend trip.

Out of the ten, seven died on the spot while three others were immediately rushed to Guwahati Medical College and Hospital (GMCH) in critical condition.

Arindam Bhallal from Guwahati

Niyor Deka from Golaghat

Kaushik Mohan from Charaideo

Upangshu Sarmah from Nagaon

Rajkiran Bhuyan from Majuli

Emon Gayan from Dibrugarh

Kaushik Baruah from Mangaldoi

Those critically injured are:

Arpan Bhuyan from Jorhat

Arnab Chakraborty Bongaigaon

Mrinmoy Borah from Jorhat

Moreover, three occupants of the Bolero DI pick up were also shifted to GMCH in critical condition. Those injured have been identified as Muzammil Haque and Yusuf Ali from Nalbari; Rajib Ali from Barpeta.

Today CM Himanta Biswa Sarma visited the site where the accident took place and and expressed grief at the loss of lives.
