Biswanath: a large number of school students fall sick after consumption of medications at school

Biswanath: The Health Department of Assam had taken an initiative towards the eradication of Filaria among the children in the state. As a part of this initiative, the health department supplied free medication for the students studying in several schools in the state. One of the schools under this project was the Fakaruddin Ali Ahmed High School located in the Biswanath Ghat region.

But after consumption of the the medications provided by the Health Department at their school a large number of students fell sick.

More than 50 students of the school fell ill soon after the consumption of the medications provided. Some of the students are said to have fainted while some others vomited in the school. This triggered panic among the students of the school. These students were immediately moved to the Biswanath Chariali Civil Hospital.

The parents and guardians of the affected students raised the question as to why the students were given the medications without conducting any tests or without any medical supervision.

The representatives of the All Assam Students Union arrived at the venue. They held the health department responsible for the incident and demanded answers as to why such an incident could take place.

Meanwhile, senior officials of the health department as well as the district administration arrived at the medical facility and took stock of the situation. The doctors mentioned that the affected students are out of danger and they are looking into possible causes of the incident.

A senior official of the district administration mentioned that the high heat and the humidity could be a reason for the students falling ill, but experts are looking into the exact reason.
