Guwahati: Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma has urged Congress MP Rahul Gandhi to “give away the Gandhi title”. He made the remarks while addressing the BJP Mahila Morcha’s national executive meeting in Guwahati on Sunday.
Sarma accused the Gandhi family of “working to break the country” and said that they are the “Sardar of Duplicate”. He alleged that they have committed “too many scams” and that their first scam started with the title of Gandhi.
Sarma’s remarks have been criticized by the Congress party, which has called them “baseless” and “malicious”. The party has also accused Sarma of trying to divert attention from the “failures” of the BJP government in Assam.
It is not the first time that Sarma has made controversial remarks against the Gandhi family. In the past, he has called them “dynasts” and “out of touch with the common people”.
Sarma’s remarks are likely to further polarize the political atmosphere in Assam, which is going to the polls in 2024.
Congress leader Priyanka Gandhi Vadra said that Sarma’s remarks were “shameful” and that he should apologize.
Assam Pradesh Congress Committee (APCC) president Bhupen Borah said that Sarma’s remarks were “an insult to the Gandhi family and the people of Assam”.
It remains to be seen how Sarma’s remarks will impact the political landscape in Assam. However, it is clear that they have already generated a lot of heat and controversy.
