Anantnag ecnounter: J-K police, Army resume operation on second day

The Jammu and Kashmir police and the Indian Army resumed the operation in Anantnag district on the second day on September 14, 2023, to neutralize the remaining terrorists. The encounter began on September 13 after a joint team of security forces launched a cordon and search operation in the Kokernag area of Anantnag following specific intelligence inputs about the presence of terrorists in the area.

Two terrorists were killed in an encounter on the first day, but one terrorist managed to escape. The security forces have surrounded the area and are carrying out a search operation to find the remaining terrorist.

The encounter has been suspended for the night and is expected to resume on September 15, 2023, morning.

The Anantnag encounter is the latest in a series of encounters between security forces and terrorists in Jammu and Kashmir in recent months. The security forces have been stepping up their operations against terrorists in the region in order to maintain peace and stability.

Three Army personnel, including a Colonel commanding a battalion and a Major, and a Deputy Superintendent of Jammu and Kashmir Police were killed in a gunfight with terrorists in the higher reaches of Kokorenag area in the valley while one soldier was missing, officials said here on Wednesday.

The killed officers have been identified as Colonel Manpreet Singh, Major Ashish Dhonak and DSP Humayun Bhatt.
