Kenya has started exporting avocados to India

New Delhi: Kenya has started exporting avocados to India, and the first shipment arrived at Mumbai on September 20, 2023. The shipment consisted of 100 tonnes of avocados, which were sourced from Kenyan farmers.

The opening of the Indian market to Kenyan avocados is a major boost for the Kenyan avocado industry. India is a large and growing market for avocados, and the demand for avocados is expected to continue to grow in the coming years.

The Kenyan government has been working hard to expand the export market for Kenyan avocados. In recent years, Kenya has secured access to new markets in China, the United States, and South Korea. The opening of the Indian market is another major milestone for the Kenyan avocado industry.

The export of avocados to India is also expected to benefit Indian consumers. Avocados are a nutritious fruit that is rich in vitamins, minerals, and healthy fats. Avocados are also a good source of fiber.

The arrival of the first shipment of Kenyan avocados in India is a positive development for both Kenya and India. It is expected to boost the Kenyan avocado industry and provide Indian consumers with access to a nutritious and delicious fruit.

This is the first “sensitive and short self life” agro-commodity the African country has got permission to export, Kenya Deputy High Commissioner to India Irene Oloo. It took eight years of negotiations to get permission on August 16, 2023, she said.
