International Desk: Punjab-origin NIA-wanted gangster Sukha Duneke was shot dead in Canada’s Winnipeg in an inter-gang rivalry, police officials here said.
Sukhdool Singh, alias Duneke, was part of Khalistan movement in Canada.
Duneke, an associate of the Devinder Bambiha Gang in Punjab, escaped to Canada in 2017 on forged documents.
On Wednesday, his name figured among the list of 43 gangsters released by the National Investigation Agency (NIA) which sought information about his illegal properties.
His murder on Wednesday night is similar to the killing of terrorist Hardeep Singh Nijjar in inter-gang warfare in Surrey in June.
The gang members of jailed Lawrence Bishnoi have claimed responsibility for the murder citing revenge for killings of gangsters Gurlal Brar and Vicky Middkhera.
The murders were planned by Sukhdool Singh even when he was staying abroad, the gang alleged. Describing Sukhdool Singh a “drug addict”, Lawrence Bishnoi’s gang said that he destroyed the lives of many people and that he was ultimately “punished for his sins”.
They further warned that their enemies would survive in India or any other country for that matter.
Bishnoi is currently incarcerated in Ahmedabad on drug smuggling charges that are being investigated by the NIA. Bishnoi is also an accused in the murder case of Punjabi singer Sidhu Moosewala.
According to sources, Sukha fled from India to Canada in 2017 on the basis of fake documents. There are more than 10 cases registered against him in Punjab.
Singh is among the 43 listed gangsters who have been involved in anti-India terrorism, according to the NIA. These gangsters left India on either Indian passports or through fake-forged travel documents or through the Nepal route in the past.
