Tamil actor Vishal alleges corruption in CBFC’s Mumbai office, I&B orders inquiry

Entertainment Desk: Tamil actor Vishal has alleged corruption in the Mumbai office of the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC). He claimed that he had to pay Rs 6.5 lakh to receive a certificate for the Hindi release of his movie “Mark Antony”.

Vishal made the allegations in a post on X on Thursday. He said that he was asked to pay Rs 3 lakh for the screening of the film and Rs 3.5 lakh for the certificate. He said that he was told that this was the “standard procedure” for getting a certificate from the CBFC’s Mumbai office.

Vishal’s allegations have sparked outrage in the film industry. Many filmmakers and actors have come out in support of Vishal and demanded a probe into the matter.

The Ministry of Information and Broadcasting has ordered an inquiry into the allegations. A senior officer from the ministry has been deputed to Mumbai to conduct the inquiry.

The inquiry is expected to start on Monday and is likely to be completed within a week. The ministry has urged people to come forward and share any information they may have about the allegations.

If the allegations are found to be true, it will be a major setback for the CBFC, which is already facing criticism for its opaque and arbitrary functioning.
