Digital Desk: A study published in the journal The Lancet Regional Health Southeast Asia found that approximately 52% of cervical cancer cases diagnosed between 2012 and 2015 in India survived. This is a significant improvement from the previous SurvCan survey-3, which found that only 46% of cervical cancer cases survived.
The study also found that there was a significant variation in survival rates between different regions of India. The highest survival rate was found in Ahmedabad’s urban PBCR (61.5%), while the lowest survival rate was found in Tripura (31.6%).
Ahmedabad’s urban PBCR had a higher survival rate of 61.5 per cent followed by Thiruvananthapuram (58.8 per cent) and Kollam (56.1 per cent). Tripura had the lowest survival rate of 31.6 per cent, the researchers said in their study published in the journal The Lancet Regional Health Southeast Asia. A total of 5591 cervical cancer cases from 11 PBCRs diagnosed between 2012 and 2015 were studied.
There are a number of factors that may contribute to the variation in survival rates, including access to healthcare, stage at diagnosis, and type of treatment. The study authors called for improved access to cervical cancer screening and treatment in all regions of India.
Cervical cancer is a preventable disease, and early detection is key to survival. Regular Pap tests and HPV vaccinations can help to prevent cervical cancer from developing. If you are diagnosed with cervical cancer, there are a number of effective treatments available.
