New Delhi: On October 11, 2023, Delhi Chief Minister and Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) national convenor Arvind Kejriwal challenged Prime Minister Narendra Modi to prove AAP’s involvement in any scam. He said that all the charges against AAP are fake and that the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) is trying to defame AAP because it is afraid of its growing popularity.
As reported by ANI, Kejriwal said, “The raid on Amanatullah yesterday is a part of Modi ji’s plan to end AAP. Kejriwal has committed a bus scam, road scam and electricity scam, I am challenging Modi ji to show proof. All these investigations that are going on are fake and their purpose is not to end corruption. Their aim is only to harass the opposition.”
Kejriwal’s challenge comes in the wake of a series of raids by the Enforcement Directorate (ED) and the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) on AAP leaders and their supporters. The BJP has alleged that AAP is involved in a number of scams, including the Delhi excise scam and the Punjab money laundering scam.
In an official release, ED said, “The searches were conducted in the case related to the illegal recruitment of staff in Delhi Wakf Board and illegal personal gains by way of unfairly leasing out of Wakf Board Properties during the Chairmanship of the Delhi Wakf Board by Amantullah Khan during 2018-2022.”
Kejriwal has denied all the allegations against AAP and has said that the BJP is using central agencies to target AAP leaders because it is afraid of AAP’s growing popularity. He has also said that the BJP is trying to divert attention from its own failures by targeting AAP.
The challenge between Kejriwal and Modi has drawn mixed reactions. Some people have supported Kejriwal’s challenge, saying that the BJP is trying to defame AAP because it is afraid of its growing popularity. Others have criticized Kejriwal for challenging Modi, saying that he should focus on governing Delhi instead of engaging in political mudslinging.
