Assam Chief Minister Visits Family Members of Jawan, Mintu Kalita Who Died in Sikkim

Baksa: Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma visited the family members of Mintu Kalita, who died in the recent natural disaster in the Northeastern state of Sikkim. He paid his respects to the fallen soldier and handed over an ex-gratia to his family members.

Mintu Kalita along with several other soldiers was reported missing after the incident that took place earlier this month. His dead body was recovered later on Sunday during the search and rescue operations and was later sent home to his family.

A large number of people visited the residence of the Jawan after the body reached his home in the Ananda Bazar Hatkhola locality of the Baksa district. The chief minister and cabinet minister Ranjeet Kumar Dass visited the residence and paid their tributes to soldier.

Sarma paid tributes to Kalita at his residence and offered his condolences to the bereaved family. He also handed over a cheque of Rs 5 lakh to the family members of the deceased jawan.

Sarma said that Chetry’s death was a great loss to the nation and to the state of Assam. He said that Chetry was a brave soldier who sacrificed his life in the line of duty. He assured the bereaved family of all possible support from the state government.

Mitul Kalita, a resident of Alipurduar who had been on official duty in Sikkim, was one of 22 soldiers who went missing amid the catastrophic flood on Wednesday. His anxious family, residing in the Anandabazar area of the district, has been desperately attempting to establish contact with him, but as of now, they have received no information about his whereabouts. According to defence sources, the family has been informed of Kalita’s status, and search operations are currently underway to locate him and the other missing soldiers affected by the sudden deluge.
