Assam: Kaziranga National Park and Tiger Reserve conducts training for ‘Mahouts’

Kaziranga: Kaziranga National Park and Tiger Reserve (KNPTR) conducted a training program for mahouts on September 19, 2023. The training was organized with the support of the Wildlife Areas Development and Welfare Trust (WADWT).

The training program was designed to provide mahouts with the knowledge and skills they need to properly care for and handle elephants. The training covered a variety of topics, including:

  • Elephant biology and behavior
  • Elephant welfare and health care
  • Elephant training and handling
  • Safety procedures

The training was attended by over 60 mahouts from KNPTR and other elephant reserves in Assam. The mahouts were very enthusiastic about the training and said that they learned a lot.

The training program is part of KNPTR’s ongoing efforts to improve the welfare of elephants and ensure that they are treated humanely. KNPTR is also working to promote sustainable elephant tourism and to reduce the conflict between humans and elephants.

I think it is great that KNPTR is conducting training programs for mahouts. Elephants are intelligent and social animals, and they deserve to be treated with respect. By providing mahouts with the knowledge and skills they need to properly care for and handle elephants, KNPTR is helping to ensure the well-being of these magnificent animals.
