Guwahati: The autumn session of the Assam Legislative Assembly begins today. The assembly session is being held from today with a five-day programme. The assembly session will be held from September 11 to September 15. Twenty-three bills will be introduced in the autumn session this time. For the first time, the session will be held at the new Assembly building of the Assam Legislative Assembly.
On the eve of the commencement of the session, garlands were laid at the statue of Mahatma Gandhi. The assembly session began in the new building of the assembly as a mark of respect to the Father of the Nation.
As per the schedule supplementary clearance grant for the year 2023-2024 will be raised in the first day’s programme on September 11. Sanctioning voting in respect of supplementary grants will be held on September 13. Several government bills will be introduced on September 14.
These bills are also likely to include the Panchayati Act 1994 Amendment Bill. The state cabinet has already decided to reform a number of reforms including amending the Panchayati Act to make gram panchayat elections unmarked.
On the first day of the autumn session of the Assembly, Sivasagar MLA Akhil Gogoi staged an innovative protest. Akhil Gogoi protested against the irregular power supply with lamps and bichoni (Hand made fan of Assamese community) in his hand.
The people of Assam have been dealing with ongoing power outages for the past three weeks, which has made life intolerably miserable for them.
