Digital Desk: Cabinet has approved a 4% increase in dearness allowance (DA) for central government employees. The DA hike is effective July 1, 2023, and will benefit over 48 lakh central government employees and 68 lakh pensioners.
The DA hike is expected to cost the government Rs. 34,668 crore per year and Rs. 17,334 crore in the remaining six months of the current financial year. The government has said that the DA hike is a “measure to provide relief to central government employees and pensioners from the impact of price rise”.
The DA hike is a welcome move for central government employees and pensioners. It will help them to cope with the rising cost of living. However, some experts have said that the DA hike is not enough, and that the government should consider further measures to improve the financial condition of central government employees and pensioners.
