Assam’s ‘Lady Singham’ Junmoni Rabha died in an accident in Nagaon district after her car collided with a truck. This happened a day after she was booked in a case.
An Officer of the Assam police, Junmoni Rabha, also known as Lady Singham or Dabang cop, due to her tough-on-crime image, died on Tuesday in a fatal accident when a truck collided with her car in the state’s Nagaon district, police officials informed. The fatal accident took place in Sarubhugia village in Kaliabor Sub-Division. The Assam CID will now investigate the accident and also another case that was lodged against her just a day before her death.
“After getting intimation at around 2:30 am, a police patrol party reached the spot and took her to a nearby hospital. Doctors there declared her dead,” Pawan Kalita, Jakhalabandha Police Station Officer-in-Charge, was quoted saying by PTI. The police have not yet determined why Sub Inspector Junmoni Rabha was travelling alone towards Upper Assam in civil clothes without any security in her private.
Her family has demanded that an impartial investigation be conducted as they suspect some wrongdoing. The truck that collided with her car had the registration number of Uttar Pradesh. That truck has been seized by the police but the driver of the truck fled the spot after the accident, according to the police.
Sumitra Rabha, the mother of the deceased SI, claimed that her daughter did not die in an accident and that it was, in fact, a “pre-planned” murder “by some unindentified racket”. Her mother and her aunty – Subarna Bodo – requested Assam’s Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma ensure that the inquiry into her death is conducted impartially.
