Imphal: Manipur Chief Minister N. Biren Singh on October 18, 2023, announced that mobile internet services will be restored in the state within the next “four to five days.” He also spoke about plans to develop infrastructure in the state, including a new township in Ukhrul district.
The mobile internet ban was imposed in Manipur on September 21, 2023, following violence related to a protest against the state government’s decision to hold assembly elections in two phases. The ban has caused inconvenience to students, businesses, and other residents of the state.
In a public address in Ukhrul district, Singh said that the government was forced to impose the mobile internet ban to prevent the spread of rumors and misinformation. However, he assured the public that services would be restored soon.
Singh also spoke about plans to develop infrastructure in Ukhrul district, which is one of the most underdeveloped districts in Manipur. He said that the government is planning to build a new township near Sirarakhong village. The township will have all the necessary infrastructure, including schools, hospitals, and roads.
The Chief Minister’s announcements have been welcomed by residents of Manipur. They hope that the restoration of mobile internet services and the development of infrastructure will help to improve the lives of people in the state.
