Indian star badminton player Satwiksairaj Rankireddy, popularly known as Satwik, smashed the Guinness World Record for the fastest hit by a male player in the sport during the Korea Open.
The record-breaking smash recorded an astounding speed of 565 km/h, has not only put Satwik on the global map but also broken a decade-long record previously held by Malaysian player Tan Boon Heong. In May 2013, Heong set the record with a smash speed of 493 km/h. However, Satwik’s recent performance has surpassed this by a significant margin, marking a new era in the sport of badminton.
The record-breaking smash was conducted in a controlled environment at the Yonex factory gymnasium in Soka, Saitama, Japan. The speed measurement results were verified by official judges from the Guinness World Records, confirming Satwik’s place in history.
Yonex, the renowned Japanese sports equipment manufacturing company, expressed its pride in announcing the new record set by Satwiksairaj Rankireddy. The previous record had stood for over a decade, making this accomplishment even more remarkable.
Interestingly, this achievement also exceeds the top speed of 372.6 km/h achieved by a Formula 1 car. This achievement has brought immense pride to India and has set a new benchmark for future players.
