The Congress on Sunday took a swipe at Prime Minister Narendra Modi over the situation in Manipur, saying one more ‘Mann Ki Baat’ but ‘Maun’ (silence) on Manipur. More than 100 people have lost their lives in the ethnic violence between Meitei and Kuki community people in Manipur that broke out a month ago.
Taking a dig at Prime Minister Modi, Congress general secretary Jairam Ramesh said, “So one more Mann ki Baat but Maun on Manipur. The PM patted himself on the back for India’s great capabilities in disaster management. What about the entirely man-made (actually self-inflicted) humanitarian disaster that is confronting Manipur.”
Meanwhile womenfolk in the violence hit Manipur on yesterday staged a protest over Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s silence on the crisis in the state in his ‘Mann Ki Baat’ radio broadcast. They also gave a call to boycott PM Modi’s monthly radio programme ‘Mann Ki Baat’ for not sharing a word on the ongoing violence in Manipur during this Sunday’s episode.
During the protest they said “You chose silence, so we choose not to listen ‘Maan Ki Baat’.”
They also destroyed radio sets as a mark of protest. The protest was held under the aegis of a Apunba Nupi Lup, an umbrella body of womenfolk from Awang Khunou, Khumbong, Patsoi, Moidangpok, Sagoltongba and Yurembam.
