Woman and her daughter assaulted for having romantic relationship, Satgaon, Guwahati.

Guwahati: A gang of eight assailants broke into the house of an elderly woman and subjected her and her daughter assault in the Satgaon area of Guwahati, Assam.

Following the incident, Guwahati police arrested Amit Pradhan along with three others while, four accused are still absconding.

The other arrested accused have been identified as Bimal Chetry, Chaya Pradhan, Sandhya Sonar and Amrit Pradhan while other absconding accused identified as Bipul Rabha, Raju Saikia and Tinku.

The incident, which occurred on May 17 in Guwahati’s Taltola, Satgaon locality, was only brought to public attention recently.

According to police, the accused persons entered the victim’s house and assaulted her physically by tearing her clothes and disrobing her by using slang words. Victim’s mother, who is a deaf and mute, was also present at the house when the incident happened.

“The accused persons put chili powder on the private parts of the complaint as a result of which she sustained grievous injury on her private parts,” Guwahati police said in a statement.

Sources said that the charges of rape which was not included in the FIR initially was added after the medical examination report of the victim.

According to the statement of the police issued to the press, the victim had a love relationship with Arun Pradhan (associated with the accused party and brother of Amit Pradhan) for a long time.

“The accused persons who are close family members and neighbours of Arun Pradhan did not like the fact that Arun Pradhan had a relationship with the victim because of her character,” a police statement read.

When the disagreement reached its peak, the accused Arun Pradhan along with seven others broke into the house of the victims and carried on with their heinous act.

During the investigation process, the victim girl married Arun Pandey and affidavit in the Satgaon PS recently, stating the she wanted to withdraw the case.

However, further investigation into the case in under way.
